Finding Art That Matches Your Earthy Style

Finding Art That Matches Your Earthy Style

My mom has always cherished my beach paintings, even though they didn't quite fit her style. Don’t worry—she still found several pieces to incorporate into her home! Her aesthetic leans more toward earthy tones, favoring rich browns, soft sage greens, muted reds, warm beiges, and gray blues. And yes, she absolutely loves my new art!

When it comes to home decor, art plays a vital role in reflecting your personality and style. If you’re like my mom and drawn to earthy aesthetics, here are some tips on how to find art and style your home:

1. Embrace Nature in Art

The first step in finding art that complements your earthy vibe is to look for pieces that celebrate the beauty of nature. They can be inspired by nature, but can also simply feature natural tones and organic colors that harmonize beautifully with an earthy palette. When selecting art, opt for pieces that incorporate warm, earthy tones such as terracotta, olive green, deep browns, and soft neutrals. These colors not only evoke a sense of calm but also create a cohesive look in your home.

2. Incorporate Textures

Original artwork with brush strokes and rich color will add warmth. If you’re struggling to find one perfect piece, consider creating a gallery wall. Combine different art styles, sizes, and frames to showcase your earthy theme. Mix framed prints with woven baskets or natural materials to enhance the organic feel. Within your space, incorporate textures and natural elements, like plants, ceramic pieces, wooden bowls, to add depth and additional interest.

3. Consider the Story Behind the Art

Art is not just about aesthetics; it often carries a story or meaning. Look for pieces that resonate with your values or experiences. Maybe it transports you to moments spent in serene landscapes, or evoke memories from your favorite hike. These artworks serve as a reminder of the beauty that surrounds us, weaving our personal narratives with the rhythms of nature. Through art,

we not only celebrate our experiences but also foster a deeper connection to the earth and its ever-changing story. This personal connection can enhance your appreciation of the art and make it a focal point in your home.

As I painted “Pali Highway,” I was transported back to a car ride along the Pali Highway on Oahu. I remembered gazing out the window during golden hour, watching the sun dip toward the horizon. It brought back joyful memories of a wonderful day spent at the beach in Kailua, filling me with warmth and happiness as I headed home to prepare a nice dinner and unwind with my loved ones. This painting might take you back to the same place as me, or it might bring you comforting feelings from your own unique memory.

“Confident” and “Moving On” were inspired by my backpacking journey on the Kalalau Trail along the NaPali Coast. During the 22-mile hike, gazing in awe at the towering mountains cascading into the ocean below, I was deeply moved by nature’s beauty. It gave me time to reflect on my life and embrace the realization that it’s okay to move forward, and I should trust my decisions with confidence.

Conclusion

Choosing art that complements your earthy style goes beyond aesthetics; it's about creating a space that feels like home and surrounding yourself with pieces that evoke emotion and memories. By exploring natural themes, textures, and local artists, you can create a warm, inviting environment that truly reflects who you are.
